AEM cloud migration for multinational organizations
Why global organizations are moving to AEM as a Cloud Service and Edge Delivery Services, and how to plan a migration that protects content, SEO and analytics.
Multinational organizations often run dozens of regional sites on a content platform that has grown by accretion: custom code, one-off integrations and infrastructure that only a few people understand. Moving to AEM as a Cloud Service, and increasingly to Edge Delivery Services, is how many of them regain speed and control.
Why move now
- Always current. AEM as a Cloud Service is updated continuously by Adobe, so there are no more multi-year upgrade projects.
- Scale on demand. Capacity grows with traffic, which matters for global campaigns and launches.
- Security and compliance. Adobe manages patching and much of the infrastructure security.
- Faster pages. Edge Delivery Services delivers very fast pages, which helps search rankings and conversion.
- Lower total cost. Less infrastructure to run and fewer custom workarounds to maintain.
Two destinations, often both
Most global teams end up with a mix:
- AEM as a Cloud Service for complex, highly structured or deeply integrated experiences.
- Edge Delivery Services for high-traffic marketing sites, authored in Universal Editor or in documents.
You do not have to choose one for everything. We often move marketing pages to Edge Delivery while the rest of the platform moves to the cloud.
A migration plan that holds up
- Assess. Run Adobe's Best Practices Analyzer, inventory custom code and integrations, and size the work.
- Refactor. Update code, configuration and Dispatcher rules for cloud-native AEM.
- Transfer content. Use the Content Transfer Tool in rehearsed passes, with URL mapping and redirects prepared up front.
- Validate. Test performance, authoring, analytics and SEO before cutover.
- Cut over and support. Go live with a tested plan and monitor closely afterwards.
What multinationals should watch
- Localization. Keep Live Copy and translation workflows working through the move.
- Governance. Decide which content is global and which is regional before migrating it.
- Analytics continuity. Reporting must not go dark during cutover.
- SEO. Map every URL and keep redirects in place long after launch.
